I maintain we're experiencing a cultural dark age right now.

It seems like nearly every form of entertainment and art has gradually decreased in quality over the past 50-60 years.  There are a few exceptions here and there, but the general trend has been a downward spiral.  In fact, Stanford University recently conducted a rather large study showing that the regular indicators of good music such as variation of chords, unique harmony and diversity within single songs and among multiple songs - across nearly every genre - has steadily decreased over the past 50 years.

The most baffling thing is that so many new avenues of communication, common access to previously high-end media creation tools, etc. have opened people up to a nearly endless array of inspiration and possibilities.  You'd think it would have resulted in an explosion of creativity.  Instead, nearly everything nowadays is utter garbage.

On the upside, at least every dark age is usually followed by a renaissance.
