Yeah...I never cared for Ellie, though a lot of the fans seem to prefer her or Peggy over Helen.I think it was because that in a lot of episodes,Andy would do something like socialize with a woman other than Helen,Helen would get ticked off,and wouldn't speak to Andy, until Andy explained it was all just a misunderstanding and everything would better again.I think "The Hollywood Party" is the best example of this.It is also the main reason I didn't like Helen.

Oh yeah....plus,his marriage to Barbara Edwards had a major strain put on it because they were both actors, and Barbara was supposedly the "star" of the marriage before Andy's career really took off,and apparently she found it a little hard to take when Andy suddenly rose to stardom and she became more of a nobody. They divorced in 1971.Not sure if this really fits into the topic, but I read just last night that Andy's only son,Sam Griffith, died of alcoholism in 1996,and wonder if he got started on Andy's liquor.

Well, from what I understand, Andy seemed to have a lot of personal struggles in real life throughout his career: he failed as a comedian, and he failed as a movie actor, and I believe his show was basically his last ditch effort to make something of himself in the entertainment industry... I hear he once lost his cool about something, punched a wall, and broke his hand, so on the show, they said he got injured apprehending a criminal.

GOMER PYLE, U.S.M.C. was on MeTV for a while, though by the time my cable provider finally offered MeTV, I don't think it was on anymore.

I've never really gotten to see it, so I really don't know if it's any good or not... I think I've only see one episode, where I think Gomer and Carter had midnight munchies, but whatever it was they ate seemed to reverse their personalities, and Gomer became tough-as-nails and commanding, and Carter became kind of wimpy and simple-minded.

Well... Andy was a widower... and I'm sure he got a little lonely at times... I remember that episode where he started seeing the new town nurse, Peggy, and Opie got jealous and tried to break them up so he would start spending time with him again... Andy explained to Opie that sometimes a man needs companionship from a woman, to be able to talk about certain things, or go certain places like to a dance ("You can't see me takin' Barney to a dance, can you? I can't take Barney to a dance... he's too short.")

I don't think Andy was a womanizer, though I did notice he seemed to have a love interest from time to time, such as Ellie Walker throughout the first season, though any episode with her really tended to annoy me, because they were always the same: Andy makes a joke about something, she takes it personally and blows it out of proportion, Andy doesn't understand why she's upset, everybody else tries to coax them back together, Andy finally realizes where he went wrong and makes it right, alls well that ends well. Looking back, though, I think it was kind of ahead of it's time (feminism really wasn't relevent till the 70s). Then, as I said, there was the new town nurse Peggy, though I remember he once felt he wasn't good enough for her because she turned out to be rather wealthy and uppercrust. Then, of course, there was Helen Crump, who I recently learned was intended to only be a one-shot character whom the writers couldn't think of a name for, which is why they just randomly gave her an awful-sounding name.

For those of you that don't know, this was the final episode of TAGS leading in to it's spinoff,MAYBERRY RFD.To me,it was a very disappointing series finale.I think it was very bland and unoriginal.Maybe the death of Floyd or leaving of Andy and his family would have been better suited?

I was watching TAGS with my mother last night when she pointed out that Andy is "always hanging around a different woman" and that she thought he was "a womanizing pervert".Is that really true?

I have read that Andy Griffith was an uncaring grouch and did not care how he was portrayed on TV or movies. This is kind of visible in the color seasons, from the very first color episode on.Apparently he was an alcoholic by this point in his life and was prone to fits of rage on set.Watch his movie "A Face in the Crowd"(1957) for proof.

Yeah...but that one color episode with Barney when he comes back for a class reunion?Y'know,"The Return of Barney Fife?" That was the only one I hated from when Don returned in color.I hated it mainly because Thelma Lou just left Barney in the dust for some foreman on a wrecking crew....plus,there were some factual errors, such as the banner reading "Class of '48" instead of '45 like the last class reunion episode.
